Published on Thursday, September 17, 2009

WINGDALE, NY, AND VINEYARD HAVEN, MA, ISSUED SEPTEMBER 18, 2009 - Westchester Modular Homes, Inc. a leading manufacturer of custom-built, energy-efficient modular homes, headquartered in Wingdale, New York, recently manufactured the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified market value house on Martha’s Vineyard.

Westchester (www.westchestermodularhomes.com) worked on this historic “first” for Martha’s Vineyard in conjunction with Squash Meadow Construction Inc (www.squashmeadow.com)of Vineyard Haven, MA. The home, located at 15 Green Avenue in Oaks Bluff, is a three-story six bed room 3,600 square foot “off-site production” home with a HERS (Home Energy Standards Index) of approximately 50, indicating that it is 48% to 52% more efficient than built to code construction. Additional LEED elements of the house include its close proximity to open space and public transportation, off-site fabrication for material efficient framing and reduced waste, Energy Star Bosch appliances and sustainable landscaping design eliminating the need for irrigation. The home is anticipated to receive a gold rating in the LEED for Homes rating system.

Bill Potter, owner of Squash Meadow Construction said he spoke with numerous manufacturers of “off-site production” houses but “knew immediately” that the staff at Westchester Modular Homes was the right choice for the project.

“Westchester Modular Homes showed a strong desire to think outside the box; they are open minded and deliver outstanding quality,” said Potter.

Said John Colucci, vice president of sales and marketing for Westchester Modular Homes, an employee-owned company, “It was a privilege to be such a major part of this ground-breaking Martha’s Vineyard project.”

He added, “With the increased emphasis on energy-efficiency, we expect to manufacture more and more homes to LEED specifications. This is good for the environment, the community and the economy.”

As part of the LEED process, Squash Meadow Construction worked with Art Feith, Designer for Westchester.
